1920 Latil Elephant Car Mascot, Hood Ornament

Latil Elephant by Frederick Bazin mascot. Moulded signature 'F.Bazin' to the side of the base and 'Latil' to the front of the base. Very strong pure 'Art Deco' design. Large all time classic mascot, c.1920. Examples of this gigantic and most impressive mascot are now extremely hard to locate, and this one is a really superb and totally correct example. Photographed and described in William C. Williams book 'Motoring Mascots of the World' Plate 407.

NB. Latil is a make of a range of commercial vehicles produced in France in the 1920's. Frederick Bazin is one of the foremost and prestigious mascot sculptors, working from Paris throughout the 1920's and 1930's. He was born in 1897.
Dimensions : 100mm high, 155mm long.
Condition : Absolutely first class totally original condition with fantastic definition and detail. Absolutely no restoration, fatigue or problems whatsoever. Just a good honest mascot showing wonderful original patination and the gentle passing of eighty years, giving the piece great character. Original c.1920 plating still in good order.
