1928 Red Ashay Charioteer Glass Car Hood Ornament

Red Ashay female Charioteer satin glass mascot, c.1928. Made in direct competition to René Lalique's work. This is probably the rarest of them all - The Five Horses. It is a vast improvement on the first one of Lalique's production run of 29 examples; the famous 'Cinq Cheveaux', made exclusively for Citroen cars. Red Ashay decided to incorporate a Charioteer into their own design and made it three dimensional, based around five galloping horses pulling a chariot, created in semi Art Deco form. The group is beautifully designed and executed, and this example is mounted to an original radiator cap and metal mount. Absolutely first class.
Red Ashay was the trade name for the Aucher Company, 1928-1939. They went out of business with the outset of WWII. See Kay and Springate book, 'Car Mascots' for detail on the Aucher company.
